It is with the heaviest of hearts that we pass on the tragic news of the passing of Angus Stevenson on the 6th of October, aged just 22.
The Stevenson family, or clan Stevenson as they've become known due to the wonderful tradition they have created in piping the flags off the beach at the end of the season, are a fixture at Killcare. They are just about a patrol unto themselves, travelling up from Sydney to look after the beach and all who come.
Angus' grandparents David and Kay (who was sadly lost to us some years ago), are long time Killcare residents, heavily involved in the club and Frigid Digits. We are eternally grateful the Stevenson family chose Killcare as their beach when Dad Andy and first Angus, then his brothers Ewan and Lochlan joined the club. Mum Katherine, possibly thinking if you can't beat 'em, join 'em finally joined the 'family business'. And we mustn't forget Mack the lab who has an honorary bronze.
We had the enormous pleasure of watching the boys grow up as they went through Nippers into the finest of young men, and excellent lifesavers all.
Always with a smile on his face, a sharp wit and almost insatiable curiosity, Angus has been lost to us far too young. As Andy passed on to us, "His loss leaves an unimaginable space in our family and in the hearts of all who loved him."
The Stevo's are an integral part of Killcare Surf Life Saving Club and Angus in particular will leave a hole that is impossible to fill. He had it all in front of him and with his beautiful character, spirit, soul and mind, and we are left to only imagine his bright future. Only a couple of months ago we were talking up how appropriate it was that he apply to the SLS Japan Exchange. His is a loss to the club, to surf, all who knew him and most of all of course his family.
We pass on this message from the Stevo's;
________________
We are deeply grateful for the kindness that has surrounded us during this heartbreaking time. As we grieve our loss, we invite family and friends to come together to remember him, celebrate his life, and share the stories, laughter and memories that will keep his spirit alive.
Following a private family funeral, a memorial and celebration of Angus’s life will be held on Monday 26 October at 4.00 pm in the Knox Chapel, Knox Grammar School, 2 Borambil St, Wahroonga
We encourage everyone to wear something that reminds them of Angus. Perhaps his favourite colour red, loud shirts, Surf Life Saving or cricket gear - or anything that captures the person he was, or that symbolises the way that he came into your life.
Most of all, come as you are, ready to share a memory, a story or a smile in his honour.
Donations in lieu of flowers are entirely optional, and can be made to the Killcare Surf Club.
Angus will forever be part of us, carried in our hearts, in our memories, and in every moment that reminds us of him.
Forever our Angus. Forever loved.
With all our love,
Andrew and Katherine, Lochlan and Ewan
